Station Road

A multidisciplinary approach from initial concept, all the way through to design, planning and on site management, which helped to achieve success for this family home.

The Brief

Sat in a much sought-after area of Berkshire, the clients’ property at Station Road sadly didn’t offer the space they required for their growing family. Sited on a compact site, this mid terraced property was limited with regard to its development opportunities. Strong Tudor-style architectural features to the frontage, and a series of neighbouring developments of differing styles meant the project had the challenges of creating much needed space, as well as a sympathetic visual look externally. On a confined site, the client also expressed a desire to try and draw as much natural light into the property – often a key challenge for mid-terraced properties.

Our Solution

Key to the project was increasing space, whilst also providing definitive spaces for the family to enjoy throughout the day. To the rear, the addition of 2 separate extensions on a tight site meant that whilst the footprint wasn’t maximised, the resultant spaces created had their own purpose and identity. The smaller of the 2 added to increase the width of the kitchen, which created an informal dining area within the room. The larger extension to the rear added much needed space to the kitchen area, with a feature window seat on the rear elevation to offer ‘private’ picture frame views of the garden.

The area not utilised as part of the extension now offers a secluded external seating area, accessed from a large bi-folding door from the kitchen giving the property an in-side/outside feature area for long summer days.

Natural light pours into the property via the large doors, a window seat and a full height feature window to the kitchen diner.

A simplistic extension to the front, finished with a simple render, and tiled roof gives the property bonus footage to the living room, but architecturally doesn’t detract from the strong Tudor features of the existing property.

A multidisciplinary approach from initial concept, all the way through to design, planning and on site management, which helped to achieve success for this family home.
