Clean and simple rear extension to give additional family space, and wow factor.

+ Project Overview

Guidford, Surrey

2017

The Brief

The client approached us to revitalise a traditional home that lacked spatial flow, natural light and connection to the garden. The brief focused on creating a cohesive plan that improves everyday living, enhances internal circulation and expands the ground-floor layout with a well-proportioned single-storey rear extension. The aim was to deliver a contemporary architectural intervention that elevates the home’s performance and presence without compromising its existing character.

Our Solution

We responded with a single-storey rear extension and a careful internal reconfiguration that together redefine how the ground floor functions and feels. By opening up the layout and expanding living, dining and kitchen areas toward the garden, the extension enhances light, space and usability. Large glazed elements and a clean architectural language create a fluid connection between interior and exterior, reinforcing the home’s relationship with its outdoor setting.

The internal reconfiguration reorders circulation and activity zones, improving how the home accommodates modern daily life. Thoughtful material choices and refined detailing ensure the new addition feels considered and contemporary while sitting comfortably with the existing structure. The result is a residence that feels more generous, better connected and more enjoyable to live in - a subtle yet impactful transformation of both form and function.
