The Brief

A traditional cottage in an area of special interest with a generous rear garden. The property had been previously extended and adjusted over time resulting in a mish mash of rooms and a fragmented layout. Our brief was to rationalise the circulation, provide spaces more conducive to modern living, improve the views and access to the garden and design a bespoke, contemporary structure which is harmonious with the existing house.

Our Solution

A single storey rear extension, and front porch afforded us the space to re-organise the internal layout, providing a more welcoming entrance and improving flow to the various spaces.

The rear elevation is recessed on one side to create a private and covered BBQ and al-fresco dining area. The opposite side is angled to provide connection to the main dining area and a sense of privacy. This juxtaposing geometry creates a dynamic and contemporary visual, when paired with the sleek frameless sliding doors and crisp render and stone partition wall.
