Pitt Lane

Creating cohesion and contrast where contemporary design was mixed with Georgian elegance.

The Brief
The original 1970s property on Pitt Lane was an uninspired house with poorly executed extensions and little architectural coherence. Rather than seeking to blend in with its surroundings, the client’s ambition was to transform the building into a home with strong contemporary presence at the rear and a distinctive Georgian-inspired frontage that stands out as a considered architectural statement. The brief called for a design that celebrates contrast - modern at the rear and classically proportioned at the front - creating a residence with clear identity and elevated spatial quality.
Our Solution
Our approach embraced the idea of architectural duality. The rear extension introduces a contemporary language defined by clean lines, generous glazing and a strong connection to the garden, creating light-filled living spaces that support modern family life. In contrast, the front elevation was reimagined with Georgian-inspired principles of symmetry and proportion, delivering a façade that reads with classical refinement while remaining deliberately distinctive in its setting.
The result is a home that does not seek to disappear into its context but rather contributes confidently to it. The contemporary rear and Georgian front coexist as complementary expressions of design intent - one modern and open, the other grounded in traditional architectural order. Together they transform a dated and fragmented property into a cohesive residence with character, presence and long-term functionality.
